"The intimate paintings of Elizabeth Williams express fluidity and chance. Williams works by initiating play between pigment, water and a slick surface of synthetic paper. Rather than direct and labor away the essences of her materials and medium Williams allows color to slide, drizzle, pool and blend into spontaneous compositions. Airiness and space join the element of water in shaping these delicate paintings.

An absolute meaning of Williams' works is ultimately as elusive as the moment in which they were created. Yet imprints of meaning and process are strikingly evident. Swirling stains mark the mingling and melting of skins of color. The sheen of the paper illuminates the paint and it's paths. Williams has momentarily stilled flicker and flow, flame and wave, in her subtle variations on color."
